Is my wine oxidized?


Hi, I was given a bottle of Domaine Saint George Sonoma County Merlot from 2005. I understand that it is a very long time for a Merlot. When I opened the bottle, the cork was broken, and it gave off a fairly foul odor. The wine itself is very acidic and tannic, and there is no vibrancy in the color, it is like a brick red, almost orange. The rim is almost brown.


Am I dealing with a wine past its peak? An oxidized wine? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
