How does Madiran wine compared to other varieties of wine and are there names you would suggest?

I've been reading about Madiran wines and beyond just being one of the healthier wines for you they seem to be very famous in terms of the region they are produced.

I was curious if anyone has had experience with these types of wines and if there were any you would suggest.
