I've been really appreciating wine only for a little over a year. I'm still working my way through the noble grapes and traditional terroirs and denominations.
This means my list is pretty damn big and consists mostly of varieties, rather than individual wines.
Australian Shiraz and Northern Côtes du Rhône (Cornas in particular), because I'm a fan of Syrah (whihc I'm familair with mostly by way of Argentina and Chile) and I find the combination of dark fruit and tannin irresistible. Also South African wine in general, especially Pinotage if I have the chance.
Negroamaro from Puglia and Nero D'Avola from Sicily are two varietals that sound right up my alley.
Portuguese reds in general, especially from the Dão, Douro and Bairrada regions. And maybe SPanish Priorat, too, which strikes me as probably similar to Southern Côtes du Rhône.
Riesling from Alsace and/or Germany and Bordeaux whites because my knowledge of whites lags even further behind than that of reds.
And of course, I'd love to get better acquainted with regions such as Bordeaux and Bourgogne reds, Piedmont (Barolo!) and Veneto (Amarone!).
Here's hoping 2015 will see more frequent and varied wine-drinking for me. :D
What about y'all? Any varietals, or even any individual bottles that you've been looking forward to open and taste?
