When overseas in Asia, I ran into a number of wine merchants whose primary client base seemed to be white expats. They would host or show up at parties with cases of (French, Australian, Californian, etc) wine. These guys struck me as playboys, and seemed to make quite a good living. I'm wondering how one becomes a 'wine merchant' and is it a lucrative field? Sadly, I never had the chance to ask one of them directly.
